Hello! My name is Nikki Forbus and I am the dyslexia/Rti reading specialist for Maxfield Elementary. I am a native of Gorman and graduated from Gorman High School in 1990. Upon graduation, I attended Tarleton State University where I received a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have sixteen years of teaching experience and hold a Texas teaching certificate with endorsements in Early Childhood and ESL as well as specializations in reading and physical education.
I have completed a two year Dyslexia Specialist Program through the Irvin School of Education-Houston Lantrip Center for Literacy and Learning.
This summer I will be taking the certification test to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist. (CALT) Certification is through the Academic Language Therapist Association. Requirements for this certification are:
*200 hours of course work
*700 hours of supervised clinical experience
*10 demonstration lessons
*Successful completion of a national multisensory structured language education competency examination
I consider it an honor and a privilege to be working with the students and families in this community.
