Description
Week of March 23-27-  Hello! I hope you guys are staying healthy and getting outside. I guess you have heard...NO STAAR TEST this year! Whoop! Whoop! Unfortunately, we are still required to take grades. I need you to log in to no red ink and complete as many assignments a week as you can. Some students have zero completed while others are halfway to being finished with all of them. Set aside 30 minutes a day and get as much done as you can. You need to be completing at least 5 assignments a week. If you do more, great. If you decide to finish them all, awesome. Set your own pace. I will be posting a review video next week to help you. Make sure to utilize the notes and practice hints posted on the no red ink pages as you work through the assignments. There is some good stuff there! The link is on this page for http://www.noredink.com. Sign in using Google. If you need your log in info, email me and I will get it to you asap.
Week of March 30-April 3- In addition to working through your no red ink assignments, you are also going to start a research paper. In light of the pandemic, zombie apocalyptic(not really) state of the world, I thought it would be interesting to research the topic. What is the Corona Virus, or COVID 19 as it's referred to? How did it all begin? How does it compare to the flu virus? How does it compare to other viruses and epidemics/pandemics throughout history, and how did civilization cope with those? There are so many questions, and so few answers. I'm curious, and I bet you are, too. It's great to be out of school, but how bad is all of this going to get? When and how will it end? We need to dig into the serious side of nature and look for answers.
When we go back to school on April 6th, you need to have the following completed: brainstorming, outline, thesis statement. I will be walking you through the steps using videos and/or slideshows, We will be writing this paper using MLA guidlines https://owl.purdue.edu is a very good source to use for writing in MLA. There are also MLA generators which I will show you how to use. If you watch, hear, or read something on this topic, write down the source. You will be required to have different sources. If it is a newspaper article, online or in print, bring it with you to class, or  take a picture of it with your phone. If we don't come back to school on the scheduled date, and we haven't all turned into zombies, you will submit your work through Google docs and email them to me. REMEMBER- I HAVE TO HAVE GRADES!
If you have questions you can email me. If you need to come see me, my office hours for the next two weeks will be 8:30-11:30 Tuesday-Wednesday. Let me know if you are coming.
